Riviera International School is a Candidate School* for the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Riviera International School believes is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit http://www.ibo.org
Pre-school/PYP
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is designed for children aged 3 to 12 years, engaging young learners as active participants on a lifelong learning journey. The transdisciplinary framework of the PYP focuses on the development of the child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom. Based on research into how students learn, how teachers teach, and effective assessment practices, the program emphasizes inquiry-based learning.
Guided by transdisciplinary themes of global significance, students deepen their learning by developing knowledge, skills, and conceptual understanding across six subject areas: language, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, and personal, social, and physical education. The six transdisciplinary themes of global significance are:
Who we are
Where we are in place and time
How we express ourselves
How the world works
How we organize ourselves
Sharing the planet
These themes integrate harmoniously with subjects based on the national educational standards (GOSO).
MYP
The MYP is designed for students aged 11 to 16, creating a learning environment that motivates students to think creatively, critically, and analytically. The MYP emphasizes intellectual engagement, helping students see the connections between traditional subjects and their real-world applications. This fosters communication skills, intercultural understanding, and global engagement—essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders.
The MYP is flexible enough to meet the requirements of most national or local curricula.
Riviera International school provides the next grade levels:
MYP 0 — 5 grade
MYP 1 — 6 grade
MYP 2 — 7 grade
MYP 3 — 8 grade
MYP 4 — 9 grade
MYP 5 — 10 grade
The program focuses on:
Ensuring students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being
Providing students with knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to solve complex problems and make responsible decisions in the future
Encouraging participation in community service
Preparing students for further education, workplace learning, and lifelong learning
The MYP includes eight subject groups: language acquisition, language and literature, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, arts, physical and health education, and design. A mandatory component of the Middle Years Program is the completion of the Personal Project, which serves as the final project activity for 10th grade.

DP
The Diploma Programme (DP) is a two-year international educational program designed to prepare students aged 16-19 for university admission. It also equips students with the skills to creatively solve problems and think independently throughout their lives, ensuring their success in a rapidly changing and increasingly global society.
The Diploma Programme (DP) is available to any student aged 16 to 19 in schools authorized to offer the program. At our school, the DP is implemented in grades 11 and 12.
The curriculum of the Diploma Programme consists of six subject groups and the core components of the DP, which include Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay.
Within the core of the Diploma Programme, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, conduct independent research, and engage in projects that often involve community service.
Research indicates that the Diploma Programme offers numerous advantages. The program aims to develop students with exceptional breadth and depth of knowledge—students who excel physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically.
