Well-being and Safety at Riviera International School
At Riviera International School, we promote the emotional and mental well-being of all students, staff, and family members. By implementing effective policies and procedures, we aim to provide a safe and supportive environment for everyone and support students’ learning.
Ensuring the safety of our school community is of utmost importance. We have adopted comprehensive security measures to protect the well-being of all students, staff, and visitors. These measures include physical security protocols, such as controlled access points and surveillance cameras, cybersecurity, regular emergency drills, health and hygiene practices, and student safety training. We adhere to a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying and harassment and collaborate with community partners to enhance safety. Through continuous improvement and cooperation, we strive to maintain a safe and supportive environment where everyone can excel academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our school has a Learning Support Service, which includes school psychologists, a speech therapist-defectologist, and a Special Educational Needs (SEN) coordinator. The primary function of the Learning Support Service is to meet the needs of all students.
Psychological work at Riviera International School involves a system of coordinated and targeted activities aimed at studying and analyzing the individual psychological characteristics of students; ensuring their socio-psychological adaptation to the school’s learning conditions; developing and maintaining the necessary psychological qualities and mental states in students to ensure their readiness for successful problem-solving; evaluating socio-psychological processes in student groups; forecasting development, preserving mental and psychological health of students, teachers (and equivalent personnel), and parents (legal guardians).
A key feature of the Learning Support Service is raising awareness within the school community about the importance and benefits of inclusive education. Riviera International School uses a three-tiered model to support learning, aimed at whole-school support through creating an inclusive culture and sense of belonging, classroom support for all students, and intensive support by specialists for students with additional needs. The SEN coordinator oversees the daily implementation of the school’s inclusive education policy, coordinates the identification and support process for students with additional educational needs in accordance with the legal framework for inclusive education in Kazakhstan and the standards of the International Baccalaureate (IB), and facilitates collaboration between teachers, parents, specialists, external organizations, and experts.
The medical service is staffed by a doctor, nurse, and dietician. The school’s medical unit includes a waiting room, medical and treatment rooms, and a separate restroom. The main tasks of the medical service include monitoring the health, physical, and mental development of students; providing primary medical care; ensuring compliance with sanitary, hygienic, and anti-epidemic standards; controlling the quality of student nutrition; and conducting hygiene education and health promotion activities.
